photography used to be a HUGE part of my life. i would find every chance i could to 'make art'... but slowly over the course of this year, life caught up to me and (after splitting it between uni, work, friends, and boys) time became sparse. i've so far only been able to shoot in melbourne TWICE out of the 2 semesters, but have squeezed in a couple on my trips back to brisbane.
yesterday, i got up early and charles came to pick me up for pre-shoot breakfast (: i didn't know that he has to drive 35 mins to get to my place... it is much much much appreciated... hope he knows that. we met zoya at plaza and went to buy some balloons-- i wanted white ones but could only find mixed packages at various stores, so we went to the reject shop and played a game of switcharoo P: i also bought a giant bubble wand and plastic tablecloth (which we didn't end up using). afterwards, we went to the city to pick up makeda and millie~ i freaked out a bit cuz millie didn't pick up her phone and i thought that maybe it was like that time a model cancelled on me the night before a big shoot in singapore... but it wasn't :D and she came soon after. they are both such bubbly, cute and just the loveliest girls to work with!
we drove up to Mt. Nebo and zoya started on makeup at a random carpark we stopped at. it was fairly high up and i decided to go walkabout... never. walking. in the woods. again. i got two bugs (5c piece size) that looked like ticks latched onto me D:: one on my back and one on my scalp. luckily neither bit me, but i did freak out a lot... i only found it after makeup when we drove back down to the park. i scratched my back and felt a scab on my back... i got worried cuz the 'scab' was thoroughly stuck to my skin and i didn't remember hurting myself there. so i pulled and pulled but one little bit (obv the pincers) was still stuck on. when i got it off, finally, i looked at what it was and screamed D: i quickly checked the rest of my body and ran my fingers through my hair... and found ANOTHER one EEEEEWWWWW ): anywhoo
the girls were very calm. i was the only one being a paranoid freak. 'omg am i gonna get paralysed?' 'i don't wanna die ):::' 'will i get a disease?!' and millie, who used to live in the country, said it's ok as long as the head isn't attached to my body. their poison won't work otherwise *phew*
so THAT was all the drama... we were also chased by stupidly smart bush turkeys!! they came and destroyed our stuff-- rummaged through my ZIPPED bag and stabbed everything they could find ): lesigh~ never leaving my stuff around angry birds again!
the actually shooting part was incredible! i finally got to do a shoot with the little face painting i saw on the runway awhile ago (: zoya was great, as usual~ she used intense gold acrylic and light gold glitter- very precise hand she has! she managed to even up both sides of the face. millie's skin is flawless. so milky and unblemished O: why do i have to have so many spots and splotches ):
oh my goodness. don't even get me started on makeda's designs. too late~ that heavy red coat in the photos is handmade by her. it features extra long sleeves and dyed bright red rabbit fur lining the bottom inside of the coat. it is such an item of luxury O:: the thing with some fashion students is that you can obviously tell that it's a student's work; but her stitching and design is impeccable!! the quality of material and firm structure of the pieces is something i've never seen from someone who's still studying. i regret not getting more poses with that first outfit... coat off and in the field. dammit ): i always forget something and realise after the shoot! should start writing poses and composition ideas down... oh well... i'm definitely calling her up for the next shoot (:
charles has taught me so much about the technical side of photography ever since the first time we went on a shoot together~ i'm glad there's at least one of us there who knows what settings to use and how to meddle around with the camera P: thanks to him, i've learnt about proper exposure and WB; it's made so much of a difference.
here's a cover of 'heartbeat' from millie's youtube. make sure you subscribe (:
so without further adieu (maybe a little more), here's a selection of photos from yesterday:

"There, on the soft sand, a few feet away from our elders, we would sprawl all morning, in a petrified paroxysm of desire, and take advantage of every blessed quirk in space and time to touch each other: her hand, half-hidden in the sand, would creep toward me, its slender brown fingers sleepwalking nearer and nearer; then, her opalescent knee would start on a long cautious journey; sometimes a chance rampart built by younger children granted us sufficient concealment to graze each other's salty lips; these incomplete contacts drove our healthy and inexperienced young bodies to such a state of exasperation that not even the cold blue water, under which we still clawed at each other, could bring relief."

(don't know is i should have hyper-edited the shapes/layout so much in a big chunk... oh well... feedback would be nice~)
hope you like them (:
p.s. here's makeda's site: http://zuandcco.wordpress.com/
she's such a funny/hyper girl. thoroughly enjoyed working with her and her addiction to bread... P:
actually, i thoroughly enjoyed the whole team yesterday! it was such great fun~ really took my mind off things for awhile (:
xx
much love to all
p.p.s. shikara, i'll always remember what you said about my photos and colour... and that's why i'm trying harder now!

4 people have opinions:
you have talent. real talent.
Beautiful! I love that gold face paint! I think you should ask your models to be a little more creative though, they look too tame for your photos, as silly as that may sound.I think your technical skills are awesome, now become a director and demand your models do more justice to your work.
Lots of love,
Shikara
P.P.S. I'm so happy you're thriving in Melbourne!
Rachhhhhh! teach me photoshop! pleaseeeee? (:
thanks anita! :3 :D
yea it's probs my fault, shikara-- i do the directing but cuz i use some inexperienced models, i can't over-pose them, if not it looks fake ):~ same as getting an amateur to act out shakespeare(ish) hehe :3
tyty xoxo
btw, let's catch up in bris in dec... i'll be back for a coupla days :D
